Sole
Chain 10.
Rnd 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 7 chs, then 4 sc in the last ch (this rounds the toe). Working back along the opposite side of the foundation chain, sc in each of the next 7 chs, then 3 sc in the last ch (rounds the heel). Join with sl st to first sc (21 sts).
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each of next 7 sts, 2 sc in each of next 4 sts, sc in each of next 7 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts. Join (28 sts).
Rnd 3: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, working 2 hdc in each of the toe increase stitches. Join (34 sts). This raises the sole slightly at the edge so the sides curve up naturally.
Sides
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in the BACK loop only of each stitch around. Join. Working in the back loop only creates the fold that forms the sole-to-side seam.
Rnds 5–8: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. The bootie should now look like a small oval bowl.
Toe shaping
Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in each of first 10 sts, [sc2tog] 6 times over next 12 sts, sc to end. Join (28 sts). This narrows the top of the toe so the bootie hugs the foot.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join (28 sts).
Cuff
Rnd 11: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join (28 dc). This creates a slightly flared ankle opening.

Making the tie
Chain 60. Fasten off. Weave the tie through the eyelet round, starting and ending at the center front. Tie in a bow.

For infants, keep ties short (no more than 6 inches loose end after tying) and never add small decorative elements — buttons, beads or safety eyes can loosen and pose a choking hazard.
